Without doubt one of the most challenging macros i have taken, but i am glad i managed to pull it off. I had this idea in my head for about a year now, on and off. I wanted a very shallow focus point and the spider hidden in the background.
I was suffering from strong arachnophobia a few years ago, so glad it is over, though they still scare me a bit.
Taken hand held, no flash, when the sun was behind the clouds, to avoid out burned areas. I included much empty space on the right, because i wanted to crop this to a square.
Converted the image to b/w and added a mild duotoning to it, mild grain removal, medium contrast adjustment , mild sharpening, resize using bicubic. No objects have been added or removed.
Any Fav, comment, question is welcome and very appreciated. If i don`t reply right away, i am out hunting for more macros
at first glance, i didn't even notice the spider but after i read your description, i looked up and was quite struck by the stark sillhouette he makes back there in the shadows. great concept, beautifully pulled off! very haunting
One of the weirdest things ever... This is one of the pictures I was taking yesterday, on a little photo trip with a friend. The even weirder part is the time when I was taking it. I don't know if the EXIF data is saved if I cropped the image, but I'll tell you the time: 12:33 pm. And since Romania is an hour ahead of Norway, that was 11:33 for you. Crazy
Anyway, excellent photo. Your drops are always so fresh and crisp, I always get thirsty from watching them.
I have a weird relationship with spiders. I am somehow fascinated with them, I love watching them, taking pictures of them and stuff... but at the same time I am quite scared of them. The idea of a spider having any kind of contact with my skin makes me shiver. There's another thing too. For two years, when I was in college, there was a spider that somehow haunted me in my sleep. During those two years, almost every other day, I would have the exact same dream, that I was sleeping in my bed, and some faint noise woke me up, and when I opened my eyes in the dark, I could see a big spider (as big as a palm), speeding from mid-air in the direction of my mouth with clear intention of entering it. First time I had this dream, its impact on me was so strong, that I woke up just like in the movies: screaming. I never thought I'd actually wake up one night from a dream screaming... but this one time I did. I rushed to the light switch and spent most of what was left of that night looking for a spider in my room. There was none, of course. Then I started having these dreams every other day. For a while, I still jumped out of my bed and turned on the light to see if there was really a spider, then for some other while, I was just opening my eyes, reminding myself it was just a dream and went back to sleep. Then, after that, I would just come aware for a bit, then fall asleep again. Apparently you can get used even to such dreams. And two years later, it stopped. I still have spiders in many of my dreams, but harmless. That one hasn't returned. Who knows why I was dreaming it so often and for so long...

wow, we must have some sort of connection... O_o Very rare "coincidence"! Dreams are so fasinating, so many hidden messages and things in them, not always easy to read them though! Thank you for sharing that story with me!

Indeed. Very very strange coincidence. Also cool though. Too bad I usually only get to submit the photos a couple of months after I took them. Because I have some sort of a 'chronology' rule - I only submit photos in the chronological order they were submitted. I do exceptions from time to time (like the water drop one recently), but generally I follow the rule, otherwise there'd be a big mess in my photo folders
