When I saw the thumbnail for this photograph on the main page, my first reaction was "Wow". The colours and focus are fantastic and it really is an overall great photo.
Perhaps it would look better if the ends of the plant/leaves were not so out of focus and bright, as well as the leaves in the bottom right of the image.
But I like the blurriness of the background which makes the subject stand out more. It also has a very soft look and the reflection of the light looks great too.
The depth of field is perfectly calculated to keep just enough sharp without including any extraneous details. The right about of detail on the stalk and leaves is shown, and the contrast of the two surface textures really accentuates the difference of growth shape between trunk and branches. A difference which defines the whole space of the frame nicely.
I think the color leans too far towards yellow. It is nice that the image is so vibrantly saturated, but the green channel looks clipped in places which is a sign it has probably gone too far to yellow. Certainly too far for my personal taste, at any rate. Perhaps adding blues and desaturating the highlights would be good steps to give image more depth; the clipped channel is the only real technical flaw in an otherwise well executed piece.
