Taken just as the sun rise up, using a external flash and underexposing the shot by -1 to get a bright middle point and dark surroundings. Canon 350D and kit lens, post processing in CS2. I know that there are a lot of cat shots here, hopefully this is more than a snapshot of a cat. Oh, and it is my friend holding his Cat, Simba
As a fan of your style in photography this obviously has some level of appeal to me. The contrast in lighting and the slight colour in the light is really nice. However, I don't find this as captivating as many of your other pieces. You don't connect to the cat in the same way you normally can connect to something as simple as the clamps you use to hang up clothes. In this piece however that cat looks a little annoyed to be held, which passes through the picture, and being in the middle of the picture you lock it in its place instead of getting the dynamics of the thought of fleeing,
There are -tons- of cat-images on deviantART, and many of them are absolutely stunning, cats make such awesome models. I'm afraid I just don't think this live up to your standard, it's not fascinating, original and dreamy, and it doesn't portray the freedom and personality of cats very well. Its more of a pet than a cat in this picture.
This being my very first critique I hope you are just a tad overbearing with me, as you already know I follow you and love what you usually do.
Hi! Because i love the fact he doesn't look straight, you should have center on him without the breaking background....i love this sunshine in his eyes...It deserves a closer picture with the same angle...
i have to agree with the critique, sorry sortvind.. that cat is not happy, and i also don't like how you can see the human holding it since it's not a cozy "holding my cat in my arms" or something. i mean, it's a nice candid picture, but not much more - but you should definitely use that cat as a model again -lots of potential! and i hope you get this the right way, i love all your other work!
