Am i the only one who reacts to the fact that people upload other peoples photos and just ad some text? I mean, i thought this was for people sharing their art, not for icanhascheezeburger pics..

pilwe.deviantart.com/art/Bulls…
an example of an extremely popular upload...

i report all these i find, and i think other people should to.
on that shot he writes he has permission, though it is no url or information at all. doubt people has it on the usually motivational/fail shots that are here.
in general, i dislike shots like this on deviantart, they fall in the random boob and look-at-me-and-my-webcam category.

I hate that people do that. It causes people to put up watermarks that make the work less beautiful. >.<

I always used to report stuff, but due to some of the responses I received I decided I needed to take a step backwards before I got myself banned. Now I just look away.

"they fall in the random boob and look-at-me-and-my-webcam category"

Agreed. I don't really see how they could be considered art. Yeah, some are funny, but they'd probably be more appropriate if they stayed on cheezburger or fail.

You have a point here... dA is supposed to be a place where you can show and share what you do, what you create and everything related to it. I'd report it if I found a violation.

btw, does dA give guidelines as to what you need to post in comments in terms of permission and other people's work or you only need to show permission if they ask? I recall having read something about it in the rules section, but can't find it again now. :stupidme:

you'll get crap like that and I think a friendly note to them might work first. He is you fairly average inoffensive deviantant and probably a good bloke. As to things getting better on DA and getting worse, theres a lot of both. with millions of apples you have to get a few runts and worms but some of those apples are ripening and getting a real shine!

DA is an ART site. For original art.

I don't know... I think it depends on where you're looking... I still see some awful snapshots in the photography gallery and lots of miscats too. :P
I do think the GM's are trying to do more to keep people informed though...

I'm not sure, I think it depends on where you're looking. The front page is still a little horrifying sometimes. :O However, the people I was watching who were just "pretty good" before have become "pretty goddamn amazing" as they've worked over the years since I joined, so in terms of people I watch I have noticed a positive quality change.

Do you believe it to be something which grows with time, the quality of art? There will forever be new artists enterting the fields, and old ones leaving, but if we study the 'greatest' in terms of what we are trying to achieve, then perhaps it is true that the overall quality of art can continue to grow with time. Growing can simply be exploring new areas, but it can also be the introduction of techniques and technology to bring about new means of acquiring better quality.

It is amazing.

Maybe, but I think it could also be due to you learning to search better. When we spend time in a community like this or flickr looking at other's work, we tend to find more and more good artists looking at groups or favorites from others. I also find a lot of great works now, but I think that quality level has been always good.

Maybe another reason is that since digital cameras have improved, a lot of talented very young people can join photography easily when maybe before they wouldn't have chose this artistic technic. If we had have that amount of resources ten years ago...
