I still get a lot of "wow, your camera is magical" Comments.
And honestly..it is not..is a cheap ass dslr.
The color grain and the way the canon 350D handles light and sharpness is poor.
is a beginner camera for people unknown to photography.
It is not impossible to take good shots with it, by all means, but post processing is necessary.

When i photograph i never use tripod or complex rig-ups, i simply make sure i got the composition, depth of field, and choose the ISO necessary to avoid movement blur.

Most of my photos have lack of sharpness and grain in them, before i edit them.
For me the editing stage is just as important as the photography.

It is all about taking it in small steps.
Imagine how you want the image to look like, understand how to selective select areas you want to work with.
Remove grain before you sharpen and bump up the colors.
Read tutorials about cross processing effects.

I have been thinking about posting some before and after shot for some of my most edited work..
i think you guys would be O_o
For me it is about the result. If the image is fine as it is, then just do the basic.
if i love the compositon and subject, but its way off on quality, i can spend hours tweaking.

Hehe, a lot of people forget that, and therefor they sharpen the grain and makes it harder to remove.

I think i soon will upload a very edited image and link to a unedited version.
Is a bit scary to, because i am a perfectionist, so it scares me :P

I always look at the unedited version after editing and I always feel terribly bad for editing my images so much, I feel like they are not natural anymore. ^^; But I can't help but edit them, it's necessary in the first place and also fun.

Glad I am not the only one who has this problem! :dummy:

in my opinion editing is a art process to.
I mean, it is not just to slide some process, good editing takes a good eye and a creative mind.
And the result is the main thing

Exactly!
I have no problem with people saying they prefer it the unedited way, but as soon as they claim it's no art anymore, I have to disagree!

Compared to the cameras from canon now, i would say yes.
It is fine to use, by all means, but far from magical.
might be that mines worne out though, i have to get a new before it falls apart :P

What? Your camera isn't magical? :noes:

Postprocessing is very important. But IMO it isn't as important as choosing the correct composition, depth of field, focal point and making sure the picture isn't over- or underexposed too much. In short: not as important as the things you can't change afterwards. ;)

Congratulation for the winners and you did a good choice with picking the final one :-)

I linked me in in the conversation with the one who accuses you of picking the wrong one, but if I remember correctly only the one at whom the answer is directed exactly gets a notice in the dev-messages..

Nice contest idea too :-)

hm, you seem upset at me lately.

anyways i desire to comment on this honestly: patrique is a sweet guy but frankly the photo composition is way off and nothing like your style. he is one of those persons here that when you browse a page of thumbnails you can say, ah that is from patrique ;) and i think that says all.

i don't believe it was a fair win. aside from pretty bokeh, the "close second" photo was the true winner in my opinion because it defined your "style" best as how WE deviants see it - because i will tell you, if i saw that one day in thumbnails, i would see, ah there is Sortvind, lets click and see what hes done now :)

and most honorably, the photographer defined your own rules to this contest, not knowing they were going to change at the end..

Upset? Not at all, i think everyone is entitled to their own opinions. i think sometimes you put them on to strong where i might not think it fits, but i do not judge you at all :aww:

as for the contest rules, i changed those right after, because very many people asked if it was ok if the photo was not similar to mine.

I choose based on photo, not on deviant.
I made 2 final polls, so people had most of the control over the final winner.

i don't see how? i was polite about it, but some persons feel uncomfortable with honesty for sure.
i think they prefer people not saying anything unless it agrees with their own opinion.

we're all different

and sure and i agreed last week that you should chose the winner because it was based on photography "like your own style"
but you chose a style "in the way you'd LIKE to take photos"

see the big difference?

so thats a random twist on the rules stated initially.

i just don't agree on popularity contests and thats how it appears. btw, if i had entered as i said i would but ended up being away, i would have had to insist on the prize going to the second placer which captured your style in the ways i have already mentioned.

See, now you are jumping to wild conclusions.
I was not giving you critique either, just saying my observation based on how you communicate online.

Basically you went from me thinking you formulated wrong sometimes to me not beeing comfortable with honesty.

I am not the drAma type, so i am just gonna let it go.

It is totally ok for you to give input on a contest, but to say what "every one else" thinks is my style, saying that the contest is a popularity contest and that i picked wrong, is not about being honest, thats overdoing it.

its hard to take you serious.

now don't get excited, i just felt like you are choosing friends in this competition and i said so.
that doesn't man its the end of the world or the beginning of world war III

i just said the truth, if anyone who is familiar with your photography looks at both thumbnails, they are gonna say that bokeh one is Sorvind :)
it was completely well done in every aspect. i feel sorry that it didn't win, and again i know it is your contest and you can do what you want which you did.

you ought not to take me seriously or anyone else for that matter unless they have a gun pointed at you.
i just spoke my mind and you can either challenge me to a duel or shrug and say, thats how she is and its nothing personal ;p

Yeah, i stick to my; `Its hard to take you serious`.
Just never thought you where a troll.

Oh well, ovah this conversation.

i don't understand why people online are so sensitive.

i don`t see why you react on the name calling, according to you nothing should be taken serious unless you have a gun pointed at you :aww:

I will keep on supporting your art, because is great, but since i know how you communicate, i will avoid trying to communicate with you in the future, at least until you gain some insight.

Take Care, no hard feelings here. :)

Linking me in here I have to disagree with you on this one here!

It was Sortvind's contest here ment to come close his works. And he picked the final winner from two photos. He said that the first winner came his ideas of how to create the shot more close than the other. How can you say it doesn't? He takes the photos after all and makes his mind about how to do. You only see the finished result.

I think the result is pretty fair.
I like the second one more too, as a photo, but I have to say that the first one would actually fit better in Sortvind's series of books.
Search his gallery for the keyword 'book'
If you have a close look at them again you will notice that non of them contain any round circles of bokeh (unlike many other works of his).

And I am not writing this to please anyone. I am saying my opinion clearly aswell before you accuse me of any brown-nosing here!
